The uncertain nature of the ongoing redistricting process has given any would-be candidates another chance to throw their hats in the ring.

According to Linda Lewis, Gray County election administrator, candidates are now eligible to file for a place on the ballot for local elections until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1. The old deadline —which itself had been extended multiple times — had been this Dec. 19 of last year.

The court order that extended the filing deadline (or, more accurately, opened a second filing period) was actually filed in mid-December. However, with much of the election process still in limbo due to the redistricting chaos, Lewis said that she wanted to remind Gray County that places on the ballot are still open.
